Question
Who must meet CIL?
Answer(s)
Since the CIL requirement is part of University Studies, any USU student who graduates under the University Studies program must meet the CIL requirement by passing all 6 CIL tests. If you have passed it, you should be able to see it on your transcript under the semester in which the tests were completed.
The following students may not be required to meet the CIL requirement:
- A student graduating under the old USU General Education program.
- A student transferring to USU with an Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts degree that USU accepts as meeting the University Studies requirement. This includes most schools in the USHE (Utah), AGEC (Arizona), and IGETC (California) state systems. USU also accepts Associate degrees from the BYU schools, LDS Business College, Westminster College, Boise State University, College of Southern Idaho, Idaho State University, and Western Wyoming Community College. Please consult with your advisor for the most current list.
- A student transferring to USU from a Utah College or University with a transcript which shows officially that the CIL requirement has been met at that school.
- A second bachelors student.
- A graduate student.
An academic department or a specific class may include the CIL requirement as part of its prerequisites, and may require the student to take the tests even if it is not required for graduation.
